Handmade to Give 2012

The iBakery is proud to be a part of the first Handmade to Give 2012. In support of all the entrepreneurs out there, the iBakery would like to give a dozen handcrafted cookies, all wrapped up with ribbons and tags, to a lucky winner. All you need to do to enter is 'like' my facebook page and leave a comment as to why you would like to win. The contest ends on Sunday, January 8th at 9pm and the winner will be announced by Monday, January 9th. The iBakery will take care of shipping and will coordinate with you when and where you would like them shipped as well as what they should look like.

Supporting entrepreneurs of any venture is exciting. Thank you for your support and please, continue to spread the word about the iBakery. The beautiful cookies can be shipped easily and are guaranteed to put a smile on everyones face.

Please check out the Handmade to Give blog to see who else is participating in this event. Support the 'little guys' as much as you can...we are all working hard to not only provide for our families but also to provide an outlet for our passions.

Much love to you all!

Toronto!

We have arrived in our new city. We landed on October 15th and found a wonderful apartment near High Park, which is in the West End of Toronto. We are a short transit trip away from Mike's work and close to many wonderful parks and schools. It was a bit of a whirlwind adventure to get us all here, but we are settling in slowly.
Today we had a playdate with some new friends. We have been to the local school three times and played in the gymnasium, read stories, and played some new games. I am trying to find some new daycare children for the new year as well as get The iBakery back up a running for January. Mike's new lab works with Zebra fish, and it is in a beautiful building downtown. Everyone is healthy and happy. Check back soon for more updates on us all :-)

Summer in the City

Summer has yet to officially come to Vancouver, but we have been playing like it has for about a month now. The signs are all there, baby ducklings, flowers, cherry blossoms, longer days...we are only missing the heat of the sun. My two little ones are now three, but are still my babies. We've moved into big kid beds in preparation for the baby to come. We've adventured to Maplewood Farms twice, had bbq's at the beach, visited the aquarium at night, watched the festivities at the first of many carnivals to come to town...this truly being our last summer in Vancouver, we want to make it as special as possible - stuff it full of memories, photos, laughter and love. Happy Summer to you all!

So, I have to apologize...I’ve been ignoring my blog lately, as I am finding that there are too many things to do during the day and night, and I just can’t get to the blog part of the list! My friend Sylvia scolded me on Skype yesterday though, so I thought I had better post something to put you all at ease ;-)

The bakery has started to take off....it is still a slow process as the busy time was during Halloween, and since then things have tapered off. I’m not complaining. I think I needed the break – to sleep, to reorganize supplies, and to think of what was coming next – CHRISTMAS!! I am in the brainstorming part of the process, trying to decide what cookies to make for the upcoming holiday, how to package them, how to market them, etc etc. I’ve been surfing the net for inspiration and finding so much that I can barely take it all in!! Wow there are some really talented people out there, who are so open to share their talents with others who are passionate about baking as well.

I want to show you some of the work I’ve completed lately, in case you are not one of my facebook fans or perhaps not an avid facebook-er.

As for the other side of my life, Zack, Maggie and my husband Mike are all doing well. We are hoping to have a new addition to the daycare ‘team’ (fingers crossed) so that will round out our numbers to four kiddies each day with possibly maintaining Fridays ‘off.’ We attended Mike's "Pumpkin Carving Party" at his work and Z&M had a blast carving their first pumpkin!

We broke out the IKEA easel that we bought for Z&M at Christmas (and then tucked away in the closet since then b/c it was too big for them) yesterday and they painted a masterpiece, one kid on each side of the easel.

Tonight we bought hockey sticks to play with at the park. The weather has turned colder here in Vancouver, but it rarely snows so nothing will keep us from running around inside the nearby tennis court  We also have started going to ‘school!’ There is a strong start program in the East end and we went for our first trial run two Fridays ago. I was expecting this place to look and feel like a daycare, but it is actually a full on kindergarten classroom, with two teachers, and all the cool ‘stations’ like sandbox, painting, colouring, crafts, books, and a kitchen. They have open play for the first hour, then snack time, then calendar/weather/story and song time. Z&M were SO EXCITED to go to school (just like Clifford they said) and I think they liked the teachers. They made a ghost craft with one of the teachers, and I just watched them from the other side of the room thinking...it is too soon, it is too soon...but with a smile on my face and pride in my heart. They are such amazing kids.

Looking for advice on how to get my name out to bigger clients, the type that would be sending a lot of thank you gifts to clients...cookie boxes will be available and I would love to have a lot of them sent out this year...thank you in advance for any thoughts on this matter.

Love to you all!
Jackie

moments...

I had another one of those moments yesterday. You know when you are sitting somewhere beautiful, with the ones that you love, and you are having fun, and you take a moment to just sit back and 'take it all in.' Zack & Maggie were digging in the sand at the beach, and the mountains were watching over us and the sun was warming our backs. I felt truly blessed, and was/am truly thankful that I live in such a beautiful place and have such incredible children. I am also unable to express how fortunate I feel for being able to enjoy these moments with my family. I didn't realize how happy staying home with Zack & Maggie would make me. Don't get me wrong, not every moment in our lives is so poignant, but for the most part it really is wonderful.
